More RAM than 1GB possible in VGN-A417M?

I'm wondering if I can upgrade my VGN-A417M to more than 1GB RAM. I know the manual says it's not possible, but I can't imagine why. Is it a BIOS problem?

With the GRX model the quoted Sony Max memory was less than the MOBO chipset supported. Many people successfully upgraded beyond the Sony quoted figure.

With the GRX it was certainly not a bios issue

If you have an Intel chipset It may be worth doing some reading up on the Intel site.

Don't worry about the details, If you look at the specs for your machine on VAIO-LINK it says it supports 2GB.

So its looks like you are OK anyway.

Try Crucial.com and if you are keen why not investigate VAIO-LINK.

Just go to the page I gave you a link to and click on "2048Mb" IT WILL TELL YOU YOU HAVE TWO SLOTS.

And yes if you buy 2 X 1Gb you will have to remove the existing memory to fit it.

Yeah, that's true. Thx! But there are only 512MB RAM available at sony. Are there 4 slots in my notebook?
