Hello everybody,
I have my new Vaio S4XP/B with a "Matshita UJ-832D" optical drive and I'm a little frustrated because when I tried to burn
some CDs I could't. Usually I use Verbatim brand and, what a surprise!! this Matshita (aka Panasonic) does not recognize my
blank CDs.
I contacted Vaio support in order to check if they have any incompatibility issue or check if my drive was bad (not probably
since it recognizes properly my Verbatim DVD+R and DVD+R DL)...
So, after check and check and check... (nobody in Vaio support know what could be the problem)... I have elaborated a table
that lists the compatible and incompatible discs with this Matshita UJ-832D.
Can anybody help me to know if this problem with discs only occurs to me or if is the same for all units in this drive model?
Thanks so much.
Here's the table... if you need a PDF with these results, let me know and I can send you ([email protected])
Note that even with Verbatim brand, only recognizes the discs manufactured by the "original" Mitsubishi company. And SONY CD-R
are not recognized!!! (amazing!!)
--In order to check the original brand, all discs have been checked with the software DVDInfo and Nero Info Tool

I've got the same drive in this machine and it has burned every CD-R I've thrown at it without any problems and I usually just use whatever comes to hand.
Your drive does seem to be very choosy about what disks it will recognise.
Thanks so much for your reply, Rob.
I have contacted Vaio support and I'm going to proceed with the laptop change.
Cheers.

Hell again Rob....
one additional thing... could you confirm me that you have the firmware version 1.00 for this unit?
Thaks again.
César
Chesarino, I have had the same problem with my first S4HP/B unit, look for my first post in this forum. Then the store where I bought my VAIO changed it by a new one and it's working OK without problems.
My firmware is "1.00 Double layer".
My firmware is 1.00 as well.
LOL @ Sony CD-Rs failing, what an irony
