Internet connectivity problems with my Vaio desktop

My lovely new vcg-lm2e will only connect to certain sites, but not common ones like Hotmail or itunes.
Often it downloads but with errors on the page.
Checking the connection, it says it can't diagnose a problem.
It has a mind of it's own.
What is going on? Any ideas?

Fishbowl08,

Welcome to ClubVaio  .

We have several possibilities...

Could be your firewall or maybe a feel softwares without updates, like:

- Adobe Flash Player X.XX
- Sun Java JRE 1.6.x
- ...

Easily, is possible to verify this with Secunia Online Software Inspector.

Secunia: Online Software Inspector

The Secunia Online Software Inspector will inspect your operating system and software for insecure versions and missing security updates. A default inspection normally lasts 5-40 seconds, while a thorough inspection may take several minutes.

here...

Install the recommended updates, re-boot your computer and tell us the results...

I have run the scan and it does show that both Adobe & Sun need updates, but because of the problem I can't download them.

Hi Fishbowl08 and welcome.

Does your internet connection work properly when connected to your router by network cable?

What firewall software are you using?

It works when connected to my laptop, without a problem.
I am using a Norton firewall, but turning it off doesn't seem to make any difference.

I don't like Norton, CanI suggest the Kaspersky ?

Can you perform a full Scan ? Could be a Spyware...

Is it likely to be a problem with Vista & my router?

We are eliminating the possibilities and for sure, at some point, that's will be our next concern...

Did you try to speak with your internet provider to ask about a possible driver update ?

It was the router. The settings needed to be changed manually to accommodate the DNS.
We have also updated the driver and everything now seems to be working.

Thanks for the help solving the problem.
