Installing a fresh copy of Vista using Sony Windows code

I fancy doing a complete re-fresh of my Vaio NGN-NR10E as it seems to be running a bit slow. I have an OEM copy of Vista from when my brother built my desktop for me. Can I use that CD with the windows code on the license sticker on the bottom of the laptop or will it not work properly for some reason? I'm not fussed about the Sony Utilities or MS Works or anything else that comes with the Sony, just need to know if the re-install will work or not.

Hi mattyb95 and welcome.

The Sony Product Code cannot be used to activate another version of Vista. You may think it has worked but Vista stops working after the 30 day trial period.

You could telephoning the Microsoft Activation Line and ask but they should not allow activation.

In Microsoft's eyes, you only own a Sony OEM Licence.

Thanks for the reply. That's annoying as its not like I'm hacking a copy, I have an OEM license from Sony and the media from another OEM version so I'm not benefitting above what I've paid for.

Ah well nevermind.
