graphic chip driver update

i recently had the first NVIDIA graphics card and some posts point to laptopvideo2go drivers. it appears not to be officially supported; any reason to use them? a second question (forgive if obvious): i never updated drivers before so
1 must i look for them manually or win update will help
2 is there a real reason for do it
3 is it safe
4 how do i do it

Hi sonyvaiostefano.

Unless you have problems with your graphics card, I would stay with the original Sony driver.

It seems that relatively few Vaios suffer from the 'nVidia problem' and this could be helped by running conservative drivers that keep the chip cooler.

The only reason to upgrade is if a particular game you like will not run properly with the older drivers.

Windows Update will often recommend a driver upgrade but I would steer well away from these drivers which are not for mobile PCs.

It is usually quite safe and you can always 'roll-back' to the previous version but the best advice at the moment is: -

UNLESS YOU MUST HAVE THE NEW DRIVER TO RUN A SPECIFIC PIECE OF SOFTWARE - DON'T UPGRADE TO NON-SONY DRIVERS.

These may cause extra heating which will aggravate the nVidia problems.
