Deleting files to help speed up laptop

Hi lads,, I have not had Internet for 3months!! so cant remember the answer to this question!! I know its been asked before, someone told me to delete either Pretech files, or Adtech files to help speed up the laptop!! but I cant remember which one and where to find them!! Brain Dead.. also forgot to say how do I make the Wirless connection from my Router Secure!! living in the mountains, but still want it secure.. its connected to my PC any help thanks a mill.

I have heard of people deleting prefetch files in xp to help speed things up, but some people advise against it.

In terms of your router, if you log into it there should be various options to set passwords or even allow only certain inputted mac addresses to connect. It does depend what router you have, but they mainly have the same setups.
