Cannot use wireless 802.11 N on FZ31S

Hello folks

I've just purchased a D-link 2740B ADSL wireless N router but i cannot get my FZ31S to connect to it using N mode (it works with the dlink on B/G modes no problems). When i select "802.11N only" on router transmission mode, my notebook picks up the signal but when i try to select "connect" it says data rate not correct. I am using WPA2 encrytion (AES) and in the wireless icon in taskbar, i have tried using both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies on laptop but to no avail. My notebook is equipped with the Intel Wireless Wifi Link 4965AGN adaptor. Could someone point me in the right direction please?
