XR-48A90K keeps losing Internet connection to Apple TV

Hi

New poster here, with a query that may have come up before (apologies if it has been asked and answered elsewhere).

I've had Sony TVs for decades, and I've been delighted with them all, so much so that I wouldn't consider any other brand. Back in December, I bought an XR-48A90K OLED to replace my ten-year-old 40" LED Bravia, and I'm very impressed with my purchase, but for one annoying issue.

The vendor subsequently offered me a free three-month trial subscription to Apple TV, which I'd never used before. I've been pleased with the choice and quality of their output, BUT...

Every so often, I lose the Internet connection.

I'm using an Ethernet home network, wired via powerline adaptors. Switching to wireless works, but doesn't appear to be a permanent fix, because the message 'connected via Ethernet' eventually appears and, sooner or later, the problem will reoccur.

The other streaming services I use (Amazon Prime, Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and - occasionally - ITVX) all work fine.

It is ONLY an issue with Apple TV, and has become so annoying that, having originally intended to continue with my subscription when the trial period ends, I'm now thinking of ditching Apple TV instead. That could be needlessly drastic, as I've read a suggestion that the Amazon Firestick I was using with my old TV might be more reliable.

Anyone else had this problem and/or come up with a solution?

Thanks in anticipation.

There was an update to the Apple TV app released on the 31st March 2025,

do you know if your TV has installed this.

Press the Settings button on your remote, select Settings onscreen,

scroll down to Apps, click right and select See all apps.

Click right, highlight Apple TV the latest version should be Version 15.2.0.

If your TV has not updated to the latest version you can do this manually.

Press the input button on the remote and scroll right to Google Play Store.

Click up and Apps should be highlighted, move right to your Google account avatar.

Click down to Manage apps and games. Click right and then down to Updates

press OK. If Apple TV appears in the list of available updates, select and install.

If you are using Ethernet then make sure WiFi is switched of under Settings> Network and Internet> WiFi.

Otherwise the TV will always want to default to WiFi.

Thanks for this.

Turns out I was only on version 15.1.1 of Apple TV.

The update was pending, and I've done it.

Let's see if that fixes things.

Cheers. 👍

I also forgot to mention Sony released a firmware update on the 26th March 2025.

If  your TV is set to auto update then it may already be installed, if not you can download it and apply it to a USB memory stick and install it that way.

The update is v6.7632 and can be downloaded from the Sony support website here,
