How-To : Connecting Subwoofer(s) to your AV Receiver

There are multiple ways in which you can connect a powered subwoofer to your AV Receiver. However, firstly you need to identify which connection port you have at the back of the AV Receiver and Subwoofer.

Modern AV receivers and Subwoofers have a Subwoofer-Out port on the AV Receiver and an LFE port on the back of the subwoofer. If by any chance you do not have an LFE port on the back of your subwoofer or even AV Receiver, you will have two RCA ports for Line-IN (Left and Right).

Single Subwoofer

1. If you have a Subwoofer-Out port on your AV receiver, and an LFE port on your subwoofer simply connect a subwoofer cable between each port (see Fig.A).
2. If you do not have a LFE connection on your subwoofer, you would more than likely have an L+R connection (Left and Right). You can connect a single subwoofer cable between the subwoofer-out on your AV Receiver to either the left or right connection on your subwoofer. (see Fig.B)
3. If your subwoofer permits, you may be able use a splitter cable to connect the L+R ports on a subwoofer to a subwoofer-out port on you AV Receiver (see Fig.C)

 

Twin Subwoofers

Many AV receivers can handle two subwoofers, which when placed correctly this can give a more even bass effect in greater listening positions instead of “the sweet spot”

If you have two sub-out ports on you AV receiver and an LFE port on each of your subwoofers, simply connect a subwoofer cable to each of the sub-out ports and LFE ports. (see Fig.A below)
