I have been using my Bravia 8 65" for over a year on the same settings and it has been perfect. However a couple of weeks ago it updated to the firmware with the new EPG without channel logos.
Since then the image on quite often starts to stutter. This can be seen on OTA transmissions through the antenna and on inputs.
When using the antenna it will often begin to get jerky/stutter and I can change channel and change back again and it will be fine for a while but sometimes comes back again.
I have checked all my image settings and they have not changed.
It would appear this new version of firmware has broken things and many people on AVS forum, Reddit & Facebook are reporting similar issues.
Thanks for this thread. I got a Bravia 7ii today and the juddering is pretty awful on youview. Seems most noticeable on BBC1 HD (I mainly use the 'HD' channels). It's really weird, sweeping camera shots and rolling credits particularly bad.
I was thinking of getting it replaced with a Bravia 8 on the assumption either the 7ii was rubbish or my particular one was broken, but maybe I won't do that now 😁
Wonder if it's an issue across several models including the 7ii and I saw so one of Facebook complain about their Bravia 9 too.
Not sure whether to wait or dump it for another brand. Streaming apps seem to be OK, although I've had limited time today to check.
I almost exclusively watch the HD channels as well.
The clearest example I’ve managed to capture was during the closing credits of a well-known soap opera on BBC One HD.
The credits should scroll smoothly up the screen, but instead the movement was visibly jerky and almost mechanical. It was a particularly clear demonstration of the problem.
Thanks for the reply us what you're seeing describes exactly what I see. Given the different TV/Panel technology it could just be a coincidence, but it seems might suspicious.
It's really odd as it can look OK for a bit and then suddenly starts stuttering. I don't think the motion (like credits rolling) is the necessarily the issue, it's just the most obvious.
The best way I can describe it is a bit like watching a video on your PC when there's a CPU spike somewhere and the video stutters or like streaming/buffering without the spinner.
Odd given it's fed via the aerial. It feels like a bug in the picture processing/up-scaling code or maybe something else on the TV is CPU spiking.
I've raised a case with Sony and am awaiting a reply before returning it.
In common with several other posts I only watch the 5 main UK channels in HD and these exhibit the issue daily. It is most noticeable on Channel 5.
I see there is some excitement across the pond on TIDDER that they have a new firmware this week but I'm not sure if it will address our issue.
I’ve also raised the issue through Sony and my case has now been passed on for further technical investigation. I’ve been advised that it is currently in a queue and that I should wait for their response rather than continuing to chase for updates.
Separately, I’ve raised the matter with my retailer, which in my case is Currys. They are now looking into it from their side as well.
I’ve provided Currys with my Sony case number and Sony has the relevant purchase information, so there should now be enough information for the two organisations to communicate directly if necessary.
One of my concerns throughout this has been avoiding a situation where the customer becomes stuck in the middle, effectively carrying information backwards and forwards between the manufacturer and retailer. I don’t think that’s a reasonable position for a customer to be placed in.
With a major retailer and manufacturer I would expect there to be established commercial or vendor-management channels through which issues like this can be discussed directly, rather than leaving the customer to act as the intermediary.
For the moment I’m therefore waiting for the outcome of the technical investigation and the retailer’s enquiries. I’ll update the thread when I receive anything substantive.
We are still having motion judder problems with our Bravia 7 from a later update 080.1. Since my last post we have now been ascended to the higher investigation team for their engineers to sort and thanked us for our patience but it's beginning to drag on a tad! Our retailers curry's do not seem to be interested as we have already informed them of the problem and have even gone through their care and repair department. Perhaps an email to customer services will be the next step regarding this. We have been toggling the stations to and fro every night but is getting tiresome. A letter to Sony complaints will be the next step if no response is received soon. Will return to update once I get feedback
