Are we to expect any new firmware upgrades for the Sony a6700? There seems to be no movement on any new APS-C cameras so I would hope Sony could at least help improve the software and add/enhance the features in the camera.
A wish list:
- Custom Setting Names: Rename Memory Recall slots (1, 2, 3 & M1–M4) to specific labels like "Street," "Astro," or "Portrait."
- Vertical Shooting UI: Auto-rotate exposure data (ISO, SS, Aperture) on the display when shooting in portrait orientation.
- Settings Sync: Named profile backups via the Creators’ App for seamless synchronization across dual-body setups.
- Intervalometer + Bulb Integration: Enable the "Interval Shoot Func" to trigger the specific exposure durations set in the "Bulb Timer."
- Red "Night Mode" UI: A dedicated red-light theme for all menus and overlays to preserve night vision during astrophotography.
- Shutter Shield: Option to close the mechanical shutter on power-down to protect the sensor from dust during lens changes.
- Pre-Capture: A rolling buffer to save frames captured just before the shutter button is fully pressed.
- "Auto" Subject Recognition: A unified AI mode that automatically detects all subject types (Human/Animal/Vehicle) without manual switching.
- In-Camera Focus Stacking: Internal processing of bracketed shots into a finished composite image.

I use the a6700 extensively for professional work. In 2026, it can no longer be viewed as just a hobbyist camera; its AI tracking and image quality are frequently used on paid editorial and commercial sets. While I can overlook hardware limitations like a single card slot, the lack of software support for your APS-C flagship is disappointing. It feels as though this camera is being left to rot until a successor is announced. It has been over two years since the last update, which was merely for 'stability.' While stability is appreciated, many professional users feel left behind. I know Sony can do this; the hardware is capable, but the software needs to catch up to the professional standard of the shooters using it.
