There is an amber light on the TV and although I've changed the batteries and it flashes the channels don't change and the banners are on the screen

Please perform a soft reset of your TV by unplugging it from power for some minutes.

Could the TV be in the middle of a Firmware update (latest update Feb. 2nd)? According to this, an amber light flashes during an upgrade. Powering off during the installation then wouldn't be a good idea?
