Screen problem with Vaio PCG-Z1RMP

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my screen on my Vaio PCG-Z1RMP.

When its warm it dispalys strange green / purple lines that eventually build up to the extent that you cannot see the screen at all.

When getting bad

It does this all the time from start up - vaio logo etc, when warm
If cold its fine - I stick it in by the A/C and it's perfect but as soon as you move it it freaks out again
If you plug it into an evternal monitor the fault is still there
I've updated the drivers and no joy

Does it have a seperate graphics card as it says its got an ATI inside

Hi cjmarsden and welcome to Club Vaio.

It doesn't look too good. The fact that it happens over time points to a heat problem or a graphics chip fault.

Try downloading PC Wizard 2008 and see what your internal temperatures are for your CPU, GPU and Hard Disc.

You could try cleaning out the vents to improve cooling. Try compressed air first and if not successful you may have to open up the case to clean it properly.

The ATi graphics chip is integrated into the motherboard so replacement is impossible.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that now and get my tools out!

Think I'll be looking on fleabay for one with a damaged screen as apart from this fault the laptops mint.

I'll let you know how I get on.
