Hi all

the drive on my s5xp is slowly kicking the bucket.

It will not burn any dvd.s and strangely it will now burn brands of cdr that it would not previously but wont burn brands that it used to.

After doing a factory restore i decided to pop down to tottenham court road to buy a new drive. I wanted something that would burn dvd-ram and ended up with the toshiba samsung sn-S082.

The salesman told me that i just needed to take the guts out of the new drive and drop them into the old drive casing.

This i attempted to do when i got home but could see now way of proceeding. One has circuitry attached to the casing whereas the other doesn't, thus square peg/ round hole.

I am starting to conclude that the salesman and egineer in the store have sold me a porker. Rather than return the unit i am happy to put it in a spare laptop but would like recommendations for alternative dvd-ram drives to fit into my s5xp.

Incidentally, ignoring the problem of the curved front bezel thingy on the tray the new drive is about 4mm taller than the old one and the fixing points are different.

thanks in advance
