Problem with Zone Alarm updating and the slow speed of PC!!

Hi everyone;

I've tried Zone Alarm Security Suite from Download.com on 15 days trial and purchased the software from Amazon.com afterwards 🙂

Before I installed the disk, I removed the ¿trial¿ one from Add/Remove program (in control panel).
However I noticed a fault with my new ZA automatic update!!

Every time I click on "Run" in update window to download, it doesn't work!! What happen is that the files keep flying to the folder without downloading anything!!!!

I¿ve contacted Zone Alarm for it, and received a ¿scary¿ instruction to follow!!!!
The instruction is for deleting all ZA folders from the C drive!!
As I am not a Technical person, I don't have the confidence to do that 😞

Another problem I having is; the speed of my computer has changed. It is too slow. Especially when opening a page from internet. I have to keep using the "refresh" button!!

I am using window XP with Aol 9. I¿ve deleted all Temporary Internet files, cleared the Browser Cache, run disk clean up and used disk defragmenter. But nothing made a difference!!

I am worried for not being protected by ZA since none of the updates are up-to-date!!!

I was wondering if anyone here knows of a simpler way or solution to sort these problems for me 😞

Mmmh, have you switched the WindowsFirewall off?

I take it they told you to delete C:\Program Files\ZoneAlarm ?
What else did they ask you to do?

Thanks for replying.

ZA has sent me a lengthy instruction to follow. However these instructions are for ZA Pro/Plus and AZ+/ZAP!!

I am already confused with what to do as I have ZA SS!
Anyway this is part of their instructions which I have briefed it in here : Start, Search or Find, Files in C drive to delete : zonelabs, "zone labs", "Internet logs". Then type and delete these files: vsconfig.xml, zlcommdb.dII, vsxml.dll and lots more.

Then to delete GLB (whatever that is?) which includs: zapro, zonealaram and "zonealram pro"

There is a IMPORTANT NOTICE in instruction which reads: "modifications to system files may disable crucial functions of your windows operating system¿ As if I am going to touch anything after reading that!!!

To answer Seb21 question; There are Window and ZA firewalls in my computer. However the window firewall is automatically switched off each time Zone Alarm loaded! I am not sure if it is safe to switch off ZA firewall (for updating) as my PC wouldn't be a protected against "hackers"!!!

I also scan for virus every day with different Anti virus, but that hasn't made a difference either!

Any idea what to do???

Now I wish I knew how to work remote assistance
