Ok, it seems a few people have had power problems with this VAIO, but as there is no search facility on this forum, I've kinda given up looking for solutions.

If any one can help me out with either a replacement PSU or other possible reasons for a complete lack of power I'd love to hear, (I've checked the obvious).

Many thanks
GEC

Hi Mainstage,

Sorry the search has been useless for a while. The easiest way is to type: -

site:http://club.vaio.sony.co.uk PSU

into Google and you will see that there aren't any threads reporting a psu problem with the V-Series.

If the problem is the PSU, I would phone Sony Support and see if they will sell you a replacement - it is almost certainly a bespoke Sony PSU. I believe it is quite easy to replace as it is not in the main body of the Vaio, it is in the pedistal at the bottom with the Hard Drive.

May be worth getting a local electrical repairer to check if the PSU is faulty or if it is giving out a voltage.

Hi. thanks for responding.

Yeah, PSU is quite easy to access and I've checked for voltage under load as best I could, but still doesn't discount the possibility that something else is 'duff' without stripping the whole thing down, which I'm reluctant to do if I have to have it fixed through insurance.

Sony quoted me around £270.00+ for repair, so if I can find a cheap PSU I can at least establish if it's worth letting them have it.

GEC
