Hello Blencogo and thank you for your answer,

My headphones have been working perfectly fine for a few months (I
installed windows 8 in March) and stopped the 19th. I cannot try on other
laptops as I don't have any other within reach for the moment.

I wasn't sure about the version of realtek driver I had tried to install so
I ran another installation (windows 8 for sure this time) and it failed
(with error code: -0001).

I've had a VAIO update on 18th which says method: VAU but couldn't find
more information about this.

There was four windows updates on 18th:
Dell Inc. - Bus Controllers and Ports, Display - Dell 2009W(Analog) ->
installed
Update Microsoft Office (KB2817624) -> installed
Marvel -LAN- marvel yukon 88E8059 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet controller ->
cancelled
Update for Windows 8 for computers with x64 processors (KB2876415) ->
cancelled
and others but earlier and it worked fin until 18th included.

I don't know what's of relevance so I'm trying to give you all data needed

Hello everyone,

I have had a little problem recently, my jack plug stopped working for no reason on my laptop VPCEC4M1E.

Here's my config http://www.ma-config.com/fr/configurationtemporaire/12951-1_resume.html. I am running windows 8.

The speakers are turned off when I plug my headphones but I have no sound.

What I've tried for the moment, inspired by many threads about the issue (including on this FAQ), never about the same laptop though:

checking windows and VAIO update -> nothing changed before it stopped working

rolling back to previous version of driver -> didn't work

updating driver via windows -> didn't work

updating driver via sony's website -> didn't work

the tests in sound -> speakers/headphones don't work

VAIO and windows don't detect any problem related to sound.

I have had a sound (half a second) in headphones while changing driver but not more and I don't know whether it's a useful information or not.

Someone has any idea please ?

Hi Elgiantpopcorn and welcome.

Have the headphones worked since you upgraded to Windows 8?

Which Realtek Audio Driver version do you have installed? Is it a Windows 8 driver? Sony do not support Windows 8 on your model and so they do not provide a W8 driver.

Have you tried installing the Realtek HD Audio Driver from a newer E-Series Vaio that was sold with Windows 8 installed?
