Double Layer firmware update for K215z UJ-820D?

Hi,

Is this firmware link an update for my UJ-820D dvd burner to a double layer burner?

As i waited alot of time to see this to happend...

Almost certainly not. As far as I know an upgrade like that isn't possible, but I might be wrong.

I just tried it myself since I have the same drive, but in true Sony style they haven't provided a readme, so I have no idea what the update does, if anything.

Dual layer is a joke guys, the disks cost a fortune.

But yes you are right Pixeldude, firmware can allow for DL writing, not sure that revision can.

Really? Firmware can do that? Go firmware!

I suspect they would have said if it did, although not telling you what it does is annoyingly poor practice.

Yeah I have seen it on some of the Sony laptops....

Yes its possible to do firmware update and have DL, but the question is if sony did this firmware for DL or its just a simple revision?

Another firmware update for K215Z but with diffrent dvd burner (QSI SBW-242C) is for DL check the link.. Firmware Update for QSI SBW-242C (CD-RW/DVD Drive)
My drive is Matshita UJ-820D and i wonder if its for DL ...

Anyways if anybody knows whats about or can write an email to sony to provide more info... its a very best thing to be done and i will be very thankfull or if its not for DL at least to provide what it fixes!

I also have the UJ-820D dvd/rw drive but in my A115M.

I was hoping the firmware update was to fix an 4x speed dvd-r write issue. I can only write max 2x speed.

However, after updating the firmware I can still only write to dvd-r at max 2x and my eject button has stopped working.

Also the volume buttons, screen zoom button, brightness button and s1 button no longer work either.

Thanks Sony for messing up by beloved notebook even more.

I hope other users do not suffer the same problems as me.

That should not be from the dvd firmware update I will update my firmware today too and will test if it will write dl or not but dont have now a dl dvd anybody knows how to test this even if i dont have a dl dvd-blank?

do you have a dl writer? if not can u have a look in nero info tool and tell me if yours shows DVD + R DL and DVD - R DL? (it should be checked under supported write features)

lol i dont have DL .. this firmware only fixes to read the DL DVDs but dont fixes to write on DL DVDs 😞
jeez why for other drives sony made an update firmware to write dls and for this one only to read dls.. its not fair 😞 though they did not write any info in the firmware update.. thats not a good suport for customers...

Mine is DL, and only +R is selected but this is normal, as there are now +RW DL disks yet

Bet they'd be like £12 each!

mine is checked only at
Supported read features: DVD+R DL for the Supported write features: none 😞 so i guess i have no writing feature thats verry sad 😞

The stupid thing is that i did not checked before updateing the firmware with Nero Info.. uffff so i dont know if before it supported to read DL or not..
