VGN A417S Problem with graphic card ATI radeon X600

It seems that I am experiencing some major problems with my graphic card on my Vaio VGN A417S.
After three weeks, it appears that my graphic card ATI radeon X 600 is not working any more. I tried to update the driver, but the result is the same I can only start the computer on trouble shooting mode.

The computer is working when I desactivate the ATI card.
Did anybody experienced already similar problems?

Can you define "not working"? Is it that the desktop can't be seen?
Or is this a games issue?

A complete broken Graphic card means 640x480 pixels at 256 colors. You would have that if you card wouldn't work any more.

Actually the computer does not start in standard mode. It seems I get the typical Windows blue error message, but it disappears before I have a chance to read it.
Then my only possibility is to start the computer on the check failure mode. Checking the systems everything seems to be OK but if I wish to be able to start Windows on standard mode I have to desactivate the ATI graphic card, otherwise back to initial problem.

I have, of course, updated the ATI driver, but no change.

In anycase I also have scratches on the screen when using the mouse.

My guess would be a problem with the memory of the graphic card, but I am not an expert.

If you are able to load Windows in Safe Mode, the problem is more likely to be software or driver, rather than hardware, related.
Have a look at this guide to troubleshooting BSOD errors ¿ it includes a tip on how to stop the PC from automatically restarting when the error occurs so that you have time to read the information.

Sony will only let you use theit proprietary driver, rather than the driver provided by ATI . I have problem with Open GL and the likes on a VGN-A117S -'the immersive gaiming experience' 😞

Try omegadrivers.net . I have been using these with my MR9700 for almost a year now and i never had problems. I cannot recommend them enough...
