When I put the brightness of my VGN FS215E Notebook down, using the Fn-key combination, my notebook starts to make a (very soft) zooming sound. Is this normal?

Ummm is that the fan triggering? If so go to the power adjustment properties and switch the performance to adaptive and see what it does and the same for the number brightness level and see if that m akes a difference. personally I leave the power settings for the CPU on adaptive all the time as the Vaio runs cooler with no real effect on processor speed I can detect.
