Reverse lens

I would like to take pictures of jewellery and need to get close to the object. Someone told me you can reverse the lens to do this. Can this be done on a Nex 5 camera?

Sony do now make a macro lens for the NEX-5 but the cheapest way is using a reversing ring like this one: -

The 18:55 lens does not have manual aperture controls. If you want to choose the aperture, I believe you have to set the aperture manually with the lens mounted normally and then remove and reverse the lens . Have a look at the 'Macro Test' set here - taken using the eBay reversing ring and the 18:55mm OSS zoom: -

By the way, the SEL30M35 macro lens is the best way but costs a bit more!!!
