What program do I need to open a .APP file

Dear Friends

Thanks you for all the help thats been given regarding installing a Firmware update and I've tried all the options to install this to my Sony Alpha a230 DSLR but I cannot open the .APP file that's needed to update my camera.

Please could somebody possibly help by telling me what program I need to open this file as my Windows XP version does not recoginze this.

If you have a look at the detailed instructions here:

In particular, for steps 2 and 3 this involves taking the .app file and putting it onto a compatible memory card. The instructions in the link are pretty long but comprehensive and as long as you follow this procedure exactly you will get this successfully updated.
