New z5 battery life

OK so "upgraded" to a Z5 from Z2 at the weekend and i am struggling with the battery life. I charged it at the weekend and it gave me a life of 17hours! I have just charged it to 100% now and it says 9 hours. This is nowhere near the 48 hours in the spec.

I have gone back to the shop where i bought it and they have asked me to keep it a week to see if it gets better. As a comparison i charged my old Z2 and New Z5 yesterday and at standby with now apps running no data bluetooth etc. the Z2 was showing 97% whereas the Z5 was down t 83% this is not normal is it. The shop tested the battery and say its ruinning ok.

Is the battery that bad?

This is normal, after marshmellow update the battery life of z5 has drastically reduced

No, it's normal because the estimation on battery life is based on the current usage, you'll find that just after charging it will give rubbish estimation because as far as your phone is concerned, you've used 70% etc of current usage since last charge on screen on time.
If you check after about 2 hours it'll give more accurate results.
The exact spec of "2 days battery life" is based on average use throughout the day, for lighter users they will get more, for heavy users like me I get less.
I will get 5-6 hours screen on time per charge cycle. And that's heavy use

its not sonys fault its that awful snapdragon 810 its the worst chip qualcomm ever made i have z3 and z5 for 4 months and z5 can only give 16 hrs of battery where z3 gives 37 to 39 hrs

It's normal to see these type of battery usage after upgrade. It's not just LP to MM. I had the same problem after the first few days but now battery usage has returned to normal.

So i looked up what is the 2 day life based upon. Sony's definition is "Typical Smartphone User usage profile. This involved using the device for approximately 5 hours in a 24-hour period, for a range of typical usage scenarios (calling, texting, web, social networking, games, camera, music and video)."

This is what i got yesterday it looks like i left WIFI on all night so will repeat again. Although power used by wifi was low

ive never gotten more than 16 hrs in z5 so this is nothing new z5 sux in battery life and u have to blam 810 chip for that

So this is 3 days worth its up to 20hrs but with hardly any use. I stopped the wifi by turning off background wifi scanning.

Your phone is not normal, first try to repair via PCC, then if the issue is still there, go to service and ask them for a new device.

I have a similar issue too...

First day back at work after my holiday and I thought I'd test battery usage on the way in as it's really been annoying me. Unplugged my phone at 7.30am and got to office at 8.50am. As of now I'm on 62%

All I have done on the commute is read gReader, prob for 35-45 mins.
This does not seem reasonable battery usage...

How would connecting to PC Companion fix the issue? The way i look at it there is something sapping the battery when the phone is in standby. The graph should be more horizontal overnight.

Right i did a live chat with someone from Sony yesterday and using the "repair phone" in PC Companion seems to have solved the issue battery has hardly drained overnight and did even go down after bluetoothing to the car this morning . Charging up to 100% now so fingers crossed.

Have sen other threads regarding battery life being poor after updates so hoping i dont have to keep doing this.

I have the same problem with z5 and it's get really hot when i use it i wish sony can do something about it

the more that you use the phone the hotter it will get, if you are using heavy apps/games, it will heat up faster.
