Bravia 8 stuttering since Firmware 114.602.030.1 update

I have been using my Bravia 8 65" for over a year on the same settings and it has been perfect. However a couple of weeks ago it updated to the firmware with the new EPG without channel logos.

Since then the image on quite often starts to stutter. This can be seen on OTA transmissions through the antenna and on inputs.

When using the antenna it will often begin to get jerky/stutter and I can change channel and change back again and it will be fine for a while but sometimes comes back again.

I have checked all my image settings and they have not changed.

It would appear this new version of firmware has broken things and many people on AVS forum, Reddit & Facebook are reporting similar issues.

I also have the same problem since the update, mainly notice the stuttering on ITV 1 HD channel, changing channel and the back again seems to cure it temporarily, but it returns.

Having done a bit more investigation I am pretty sure it is the TV app that is broken.

SONY have obviously updated the app to remove TV logos and the font and wording on the PVR is slightly different.

However I rely on the TV app rather than alternatives as I use the PVR functionality.

We have also had this since the update, been jumping though the hoops with Sony trying to get sorted, they have now washed their hands and directed us to an authorised repair centre to repair and we have got to pay! Tv is 18 months old and basically their attitude stinks, will never buy Sony again, luckily still got the trusty old Samsung to watch!

I'm still having the same issue on a daily basis, despite numerous correspondence with Sony getting and nowhere.

The problem is on free to air HD channels BBC , ITV etc.

Only remedy is to switch channel and back again, but the issue reoccurs later.

Had my Ariel installation checked, replace cables etc.

Same on Bravia 7 K-75XR70, framerate will.drop but will revert to normal on scene change after a few seconds.

Another disgruntled user here. I came to a Sony 65" from an LG 55" which was excellent.

The stuttering has occurred since the recent software update and affects multiple HD channels. I'm relieved to hear that it's not an issue with the TV itself, so we'll now see how Sony responds.

Frankly the TV software has been a major disappointment. It's difficult to understand how it's so complex and utterly poor compared to LG's offering, and my next TV will definitely be an LG. I think I've counted 3 separate EPG's alone.

Not sure if I can log a support call or go back to my retailer John Lewis to have them escalate.

According to owners of the Bravia 8 M2 on the AVForums Bravia 8 M2 users forum

Sony have said that a firmware update should be released around August 19th which

should take care of the problems introduced with the last update.

Same for me. OTA channels stuttering and lip sync going way off. Changing channels does stop it for a short while but it comes back. Using the tv output from my Humax PVR to get a clean picture. Come on sony payed good money for my Bravia 8 tv. This is near the top of the range, you must do better.

I wanted to add my experience in case it helps others with the same issue.

I have a 65-inch Sony BRAVIA 8 II (K-65XR8M2). The TV had been performing perfectly, but shortly after the most recent Sony software/firmware update I began noticing subtle but persistent motion judder/stuttering on live television.

My current Android TV build ends in 602080.

I have carried out quite a bit of troubleshooting:

● The problem occurs across multiple terrestrial channels.

● signil quality is 100/100 and signil strength is 90/100, so reception appears to be very good.

● I have tested different Motionflow and Film Mode settings.

● Turning Motionflow completely off changes the behaviour but does not make motion look completely right.

● Motionflow Custom with Camera Smoothness set to 1 improves the problem, but this feels like a workaround rather than a proper solution.

● Changing channel and then switching back has sometimes changed/improved the motion behaviour.

● Streaming content does not appear to exhibit the problem in the same way.

● Most importantly, I did not notice this behaviour before the recent firmware update.

I have raised this directly with Sony Support and my case reference is 29173275. Sony have so far said that the issue is not currently marked as a post-update problem, but they have asked me to carry out further diagnostics so the case can be escalated.

I’m posting here because I’d be very interested to know how many other BRAVIA 8 / BRAVIA 8 II owners are seeing the same thing following the recent update. If you are, it would be useful to share your model, firmware/build number and whether the problem began after the update.

Hopefully, if enough owners report the same behaviour, Sony can identify whether this is a firmware-related motion-processing issue and address it in an update.

Yep, I've pretty much followed similar steps and TBH Sony support have been pretty useless. Just blindly following a script with no proactive steps.

For many decades I have only ever bought Sony televisions (right back to the 80's Trinitrons) and would never consider another brand but this fiasco will certainly make me think twice before paying Sony tax on a future purchase.

I must have had some update a few days ago as the problem seemed to have gone away.

Then I was watching TV last night and it was back again and with new behaviour 😒 where on a multi-cam TV show (Live at the Apollo) one front on view was very jerky but side camera/audience view not. Very weird.

I'll take a more detailed look later on and see if I can figure out how to get the version number.

How these software releases were ever, er, released is unbelievable. Is this Sony, Google, or both?
